a lot of uncertainty in new york city following the devastation from superstorm sandy. >> at the same time we're also hearing stories of human kindness. tonight on "rock center" with brian williams, we'll see how "30 rock" star alec baldwin is helping his neighbors. natalie morales has the story. >> reporter: after sandy struck much of the lower part of manhattan, it was plunged into darkness. alec baldwin and his wife moved to a hotel to weather the storm. but soon returned to their apartment to help their neighbors. >> in the building we live in, which is a 12-story building with a pent house, in the village they have a lot of elderly people, with no elevator service. as you can see, there's no power here in the east village anywhere. so in our building, you can assume that people who were elderly can't go up and down the stairs to get meals, water, any prescriptions. even if they could get them. walk their dogs. so we volunteered to come today to stand by for a couple of hours, especially during the mealtime, and see if we could be of any help to them. we left to go to a hotel, bec
